Modified Foods.
Dr Cottingham has been a teacher and independent ecological
consultant, as well as a public speaker for many years on various
aspects of wildlife and natural history. She is now a writer
and editor

John Carrott: Bees and Honey:
John has had a lifetime interest in bees and for 30 years was
a member of the Avon Beekeepers Assn of which he has held various
posts including President. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute
of Water and Environmental Management.
Please note:
from May 2008 we will be charging £2 admission to events,
including refreshments.

Vinah Bell: Management of Walborough
Nature Reserve which is situated just south of Uphill village.
It has salt marsh and limestone grassland with rare plants and
insects. The limestone grassland is an SSSI with an exceptionally
rich flora including a number of nationally rare species. These
include Somerset hair-grass and honewort. Also there are green-winged
and early purple orchid, autumn lady's tresses and abundant
cowslips.

Point Nuclear power station maximum 10 people. Please note that we will
have to change into suitable gear at the start of this visit.
Mon 14 July
10.30 a.m. at Yeo Valley Farms (Production)
Ltd, The Mendip Centre, Blagdon.
Directions: Approaching Blagdon from Churchill on the A 38,
drive through the village of Blagdon, following the A368,
passing Blagdon Stores. At the top of the hill, the A368 bends
sharply to the left. Take the right which proceeds steeply
upwards (the Seymour Arms should now be on the left). The
Mendip Centre is located off this road towards the top of
the village.
Sat 16 August
Walk with the Woodland Trust in Dolebury Warren.
Meet 1.00 p.m. at Peartree Industrial Estate (on left on road
to Burrington from Churchill traffic lights 100 yds before
Blagdon Water Centre)
Walk to start from public footpath opposite to end about 3.00
Can then have drink in the cafe in the Water Centre or in
the pub at the bottom of Burrington Coombe

James Field 'Conservation work on the North Somerset Levels'.
James is a member of Avon Wildlife and is the Project Officer
for the North Somerset Levels and Moors Project. He also has
an interest in otters, water voles and bats of this area.
Wed 8 October:
Dr Lawrence Matthews 'Why should I do my bit unless everyone
else does too?'
Dr Matthews has worked in universities and in industry; recently
gave evidence to the House of Commons Environment Select Committee
on the psychology of tackling climate change. Why should I do
my bit, unless everyone else does too? And what about China?
Realistic answers to these questions can be surprisingly up-beat
and inspiring - "Why light-bulbs are important - but not
for the reason you'd think".

Mike Birkin is South West Regional Campaigner for Friends
of the Earth and will talk on the organisation's direction
and networking power.
Wed 26 November:
AGM followed by a presentation on Bats in recognition
that this is the International Year of the Bat.
