The
Taste of North Somerset local food partnership meets regulalrly to develop
the local food market. The aim of the partnership is for North Somerset
to have a thriving local food economy, to which everyone has access to
good quality, healthy food that has been produced locally. The partnership
brings together local producers, wholesalers, distributors, consumers
and support organisations.
The partnership has developed two farmers markets (Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare)
and is in the process of launching two more in Nailsea and Portishead
in 2008.
The Taste of North Somerset also produces a local food directory. The
directory is free and can be picked up at local services, such as libraries
and doctors surgeries, or by calling 01275 888504, or email sustainability@n-somerset.gov.uk.
It is also available
on line...
The directory lists where in North Somerset you can buy local food, and
also gives useful information such as seasonality of produce, an interpretation
of food labels and reasons to buy locally produced food.
